We all have a role to play…

Investor services have never been so important. With the climate and energy crisis and depleting natural resources, financial players are faced with finding alternative ways to better serve and help clients during these unprecedented times.

The role of technology as a catalyst for sustainable growth and as an enabler of the transition to a low-carbon economy has become increasingly clear. New technologies must offer clients solutions that are green and ecofriendly. While investment performance is still a top priority, sustainability is becoming more important than ever before for investors. If the financial industry is being challenged to deliver on these objectives, we must remain cautious in our choices and conscious that certain technologies may still have some extreme energy requirements.

A few years ago, blockchain and distributed ledger technology were considered to be potential disruptors for the fund distribution chain but it is now clear that they are more transformative. Although considered a total game changer for improving data exchange and building trust within the industry, they might not succeed without the competencies and expertise of existing players such as transfer agency that has a major role in this process. The digital transformation is about rethinking the business and the role that we play, whilst doing that in the context of delivering the best outcomes for our clients.
